I can hardly believe you haven't read the Thursday Murder Club books! They are FANTASTIC. Killers of a Certain Age is also marvelous. I haven't picked up the sequel yet but thank you for the reminder! I'll bump the Tess Gerritsen series up a little higher on my never-ending TBR. :)
Love Tess Gerritsen's Martini Club series! Maggie Bird is the badass I want to be when I'm retired. The Summer Guests is very good too, though there wasn't as much Maggie as I would've liked (she makes some interesting POV choices with that one, I think). We do get more of Jo Thibodeau, which is fun. Looking forward to the next one. (Also highly recommend Deanna Raybourn's Killers of a Certain Age and Kills Well With Others. More humor than Gerritsen, but just as much mayhem.)
Oh my goodness--get your hands on the Thursday Murder Club series as fast as you can! And be sure to read the books before you watch the series (I'm not thrilled with all the casting--Pierce Brosnan is so not Ron but Helen Mirren as Elizabeth & Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim are brilliant choices!). And then move right into Deanna Raybourn's Killers of a Certain Age. Spend your summer with them rather than the usual beach reads. Well, unless you need a palate cleanser. The only problem with them is they tend to spoil you for your next read.
Thursday Murder Club is fantastic!!! You’ll love them! Also, anything by Anthony Horowitz.
I am very much like you in that I cannot read, tense or scary books at night. I have nighttime books that I listen to and I have daytime books that I listen to.
This is a very important distinction. I am attempting to finish a daytime book right now, before nighttime rules commence. And I like Horowitz a lot! I have my eye on his latest.
