Your Next Beach Read Has a Hit List
You haven't seen this one! It's fast, funny and criminally under the radar.
Maybe you saw this one on my June books list and thought, hmm.
And then you thought, nah. Not my vibe. Too much dude-bro energy.
I think you’re wrong.
If you loved The Blonde Identity (and if you haven’t read that yet, just stop and go get it), if you’ve ever surprised yourself by enjoying a Dan Brown or a Tom Clancy, this one is definitely for you.
And if you pounced on my previous recs of Starter Villain or Murderbot—this is your book, friend! You need not wait.
I gave this to my mostly lit-fic and non-fiction reading neighbor (honestly, to pass on to her camp-counselor son) and she decided to read it first and … loved it.
So: Assassins Anonymous. Apparently even the world’s most lethal spy assassin types sometimes want to hang it all up and try to make sense of what they’ve done and who they are, and there’s a program for that, with all the familiar tenets (apologizing to those you’ve hurt is a real bugger). Our hero is just barely short of his one-year “sober” chip when he’s attacked by pros he manages not to kill (barely) but knows won’t stop. Now he’s on the run, with the (beautiful, capable, equally dangerous) doc who patched him up and his beloved cat in a carrier under the seat. Who’s after him, why—and can he get out of this with everyone involved alive?
Okay, it that didn’t hook you nothing will, you’re dead to this kind of book and that is FINE FINE OKAY WHATEVER. (Seriously, never read anything you don’t want to, totally kidding but also maybe just give the sample chapter a shot?)
It’s good to mix up our reading lives once in a while. This will do just that, promise. Also would probably make a great in-car listen for a family trip with partner or teens, bc it’s short and snappy and engrossing.
Let me know what you think!
Just requested from Libby - thank you!
