The Book That Hatched a Hallmark Hit
The characters I made are out there… without me!
Somewhat unbelievably, the second season of Hallmark’s The Chicken Sisters premiered Sunday night.
As in: the TV show they made from the book I WROTE.
Season one was amazing—seeing my characters come to life, plus a few delightful extras. But they couldn’t do EVERYTHING, because you can have a lot more going on in a book than a series in some ways, and less in others.
More, in that we get to make more things happen for those beloved key characters, and we get a whole lot more real estate to tell you why and how they are who they are and do what they do.
Less, in that readers need fewer characters, because we live in the hearts and the heads of the ones we love and also because we have to keep them straight, which is a whole lot easier to do when you’re hearing and watching someone than when you’re creating them in your mind.
So the show didn’t (and couldn’t) do everything. Which is why… you should read the book! And if you’re not a Hallmark watcher… you should still read the book!
Why?
It’s really good. (NYT bestseller, just saying.)
It has staying power. Good enough to inspire a show and get a Season 2.
It’s got a bonus for readers. Season two adds a plotline from the book that didn’t make it into Season one—an Easter egg just for you. Or maybe me.
If you’re hitting the late-summer reading slump like I am, The Chicken Sisters is your ticket out—the book that can pull you away from back-to-school chaos and the creeping arrival of fall. (I mean, if you’re all about that, you go! But I’m not ready.)
📚 Buy The Chicken Sisters – because sometimes you just need a funny, cozy, messy family drama.
Already read it?
Time for In Her Boots—trade chicken shacks and reality TV for two lifelong best friends whose loyalty leads to a literary caper on The Today Show. You’ll find a farm, a small college town, and a cast you won’t forget.
📚 Buy In Her Boots – because you deserve a story full of loyalty, laughs, and second chances.
Let’s save Playing the Witch Card for when we actually want to see the Halloween decorations at Target.
Thanks for reading, y’all. I love that you’re here, that we talk books, and that sometimes the right one finds you at the right time. I hope one of these is that book for you.
PS: I really am in a reading slump and would take suggestions.
PPS: If you’re watching the show and you live in Kansas, I know you use cordless phones. It totally makes sense that Nancy and Gus (Barb) would not. Especially on Hallmark!!

Oh I loved loved loved Razor Girl! I will check out Writing Mr. Wrong (it’s not one of those “character comes to life” books is it? I honestly hate those.) I don’t think I can handle Tuberculosis.
Will be watching!
