So You Won't Have to Kill the Kid Who Interrupted Your Reading...
Sometimes I need a low-anxiety read that's still good.
Listen, sometimes I want a page turner. I want to HAVE to know what happens. I want to be shrieking “no” at the protagonist while saying a total “yes” to the book. On a plane, for certain kinds of vacation reading, when things around me are already tense and nothing less will distract.
And sometimes I just want a hang. I want to be interested, engrossed, intrigued but not needing to put the book down at bedtime lest it haunt my dreams. I want a book I can set down at the pool when someone needs me but be excited to come back to. (Ever totally forgotten you were reading something in your eReader? I have!)
These are those books. You know I enjoyed them or I would not recommend; you know you can trust me, the only questions are is this what you’re looking for and which flavor would suit you best. Here’s enough info to know which to click!
Far and Away, Amy Poeppel House swap between Dallas and Berlin by two women/families with lives they need to escape and not nearly enough info about what they’re escaping to.
Welcome to Murder Week by Karen Dukess Her rarely-seen, reserved mom booked them… a murder week in England before she died? Crazy. She’s totally not going, she’ll hate that. Yeah, right.
One Death at a Time by Abbi Waxman The new assistant to a badass survivor version of Carrie Fisher has to help her solve a ton of Hollywood murders or be next.
Family Family by Laurie Frankel Famous sit-com actress gave up a baby for adoption as a teen, then built her own family by adoption later… and all those families are about to crash into each other But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
We All Live Here by Jojo Moyes She’s divorcing her cheater ex, whose pregnant mistress sends her kid to the same posh school but we don’t say anything, we’re calm about it because we’re very British—except for our dad, who is basically William Shatner and very entertaining. This one is a just a good hang.
Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez It’s the world’s least stressful romance—of course these lovely people will figure this out because they belong together even though I admit it totally seems impossible bc one of them will have to give up something important and I do not know which but also, he’s an adorable grumpy vet, she’s the voice of a mustard brand on social and they are SO ENTERTAINING.
That’s it, you ought to be able to grab one or two from there! I find this kind of book to be among the hardest to find in a satisfactory version. So if you have any, share below!

Always love your book recs. And this headline!
Love a low-anxiety read that's also v light on the romance front, and the first two sound right up my alley. I have Amy Poeppel's The Sweet Spot on hold at the library for a reread, this is perfect timing :)
