Just One Book: If you trust me, pre-order this
You know you do, and you won't be sorry.
You’re doing this for your future self.
Your March self, who needs a really engrossing, fulfilling, can’t wait to get back to it, what on earth is going to happen here, oh, wow of a book.
You know you can trust me, who gave you The Correspondent early enough that you could be the word-of-mouth instead of relying on it. Think back through your last few fave reads. Who did you hear about them from? Me, that’s who.
Probably. If you’re new here, well, you would have. Glad you’re here!
Ok, the book: The Fountain, by Casey Scieszka
The premise is alluring, the execution excellent. Everyone wants to find the fountain of youth…except the people who are living with its results, and especially 200+ year old Vera, who looks like a teenager and is still dealing with men mansplaining fly-fishing and woods safety in spite of having survived a couple of centuries taking care of herself.
I couldn’t stop reading. At first, I wasn’t even sure what I wanted for Vera, who is tired of life but can’t stop living it, but I wanted something for her, something better. And then her brother showed up, with a mysterious fellow immortal (who I was totally wrong about, a sign of a good story for sure), and then the immortality-seeking billionaire…
You’re going to love this. But I’m sorry—you can’t have it until March 17th. Order it now, so you’ll have it then.
If you need something to read right now…I have nothing fresh for you. This took all my reading time. I started something late last night and honestly, I can’t even remember what the cover looked like. Oh wait… I do. I bought if for the cover, actually. It’s called The Fact Checker and it looks like a New Yorker, which of course is brilliant, and if I like it you’ll hear about it.
Meanwhile, read any good front list lately? I’ve abandoned a bunch, sadly. I think it just takes a lot to keep me reading right now.
PS: Writers, we’re doing a 6 week Blueprint Sprint over at #AmWriting. Details here—and if you’re revising, it’s fabulous for that too!

You say read it. I read it. :)
I'm reading I, Medusa and The Wharton Plot right now. I, Medusa is coming off much younger than I had hoped, more YA. The Wharton Plot is great.
Now THAT's a concept! Definitely pre-ordering. Thank you!
As for unputdownable reads, I just finished DAMNATION SPRING by Ash Davidson and it is one of the best books I've ever read. EVER. Gorgeously rendered at the line level. Momentum builds & builds. From the midpoint on, I couldn't wait for my "real life" day to end so I could get back to this story. Heart-pounding, heart-breaking, and not once did I think "meh".
The next book I tried to read didn't stand a chance. After two chapters, I plopped it straight into the "maybe later" pile.
