For the Writers Out There: You Can Do This, Here's How
Forgive me while I go a little "inside baseball"--or grab Summer Romance and read that instead.
Hey crew—you know me. This is usually all books all the time around here. I sometimes forget to even remind you that I AM a writer (Go buy my books, please.) And yeah ok there are a few books at the end of this. Three. Or 19, depending on how you count.
But I’m a writer, even if it’s maybe been a couple of days since I opened that file of mid-revision terror. And my OTHER email/podcast, #AmWriting, is doing a thing that you—if you’re a writer, of have ever thought about writing—might want in on: the Blueprint for a Book Summer Sprint.
My friend, writer and editor extraordinaire Jennie Nash, once wrote a rather useful little thing called Blueprint for a Book. I swear by it, as it now says on the cover. I use it before I start books, I use it before I revise books, I use it again when I revise again (it’s not that it doesn’t work it’s that this is HARD STUFF).
I wasn’t alone, so Jennie followed that up with a version for nonfiction and a version for memoir, and then between us we created a 10 week challenge to get writers through the blueprint and help them emerge out the other side waaaaaayyyyyy closer to what they hope to write than they would be if they just opened up a file, wrote the words Chapter One and kept going. (That… works for some people? Maybe? But also eventually they have to also answer these questions because there is no way around actually doing the work.)
This summer, that 10 week program is running over on #AmWriting, with 4 coaches, write-alongs, AMAs, workbooks and weekly goals. It’s for paid subscribers only, but you could subscribe at $8 a month and then immediately unsubscribe when you’re done, we won’t judge! That would be… a ridiculous bargain.
The number one reason most books never get published is because they never get written. This is a game you can’t win if you don’t play. So if you have a novel, a memoir, or a work of non-fiction that’s simmering inside you, head to #AmWriting and get to work.
JUST A LITTLE BOOKISHNESS: I’m reading House of Kwa, Annabel Monaghan’s Summer Romance and Allison Bornstein’s Wear It Well, and I have Everytime I Go On Vacation Someone Dies lurking on the table. In fact, here’s the table.
That’s it from me! LMK if you check out the Blueprint. It’s good stuff.
